Sphero BOLT+ is a programmable robot in the shape of a durable transparent sphere, which houses surprisingly powerful technology. With built-in sensors, a color LCD display, wireless charging, and advanced programming features, it is an ideal educational tool for primary and secondary schools.
In combination with the intuitive Sphero Edu app, it helps develop logical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
Ideal for children from 8 years old

Sphero BOLT+ is suitable for children from 8 years old who are just getting acquainted with robotics and programming, as it can be programmed simply by drawing a path, but it is also appreciated by more experienced users who already know block programming or even JavaScript or Python and can write their own programs.
BOLT+ can reach a speed of up to 2 m/s, but there is no need to worry if it goes out of sight – thanks to the built-in compass, you will always know its location.
Inside the transparent housing, which is waterproof and dustproof, are several advanced sensors, and most notably a unique LCD display, where children can show detailed text, images, and animations.
Control via face or programming languages
BOLT+ appeals to both beginners and advanced students looking for real-world applications of programming connected to the physical world. It can be controlled via a computer or mobile app and programmed at three levels of difficulty:
-
Programming beyond drawing
Sphero BOLT+ is ideal even for complete beginners who are just getting acquainted with robotics. Children can control the robot simply by tilting their phone, which acts as a joystick, by drawing a path for it to follow, or even using facial expressions. -
Block programming
Another way to program BOLT+ is using colored blocks with individual commands. Beginners can start with simple commands such as Roll, pause, lights, sound, or speech output.
At the intermediate level, loops, sensor operations, and code annotation are introduced.
Advanced students learn to use variables, functions, conditions, and other logical structures in Advanced Block mode.

Text programming in JavaScript and Python
More advanced students can easily transition from block programming to text-based programming in JavaScript or Python, learning syntax, asynchronous execution, and writing code in text form.

Advanced sensors for even more fun
BOLT+ houses several sensors and features within its transparent body. The most fun is the ability to program a unique 128×128 pixel LCD display with custom images, animations, show real-time sensor values, or use it as an interactive screen for games and tasks. Students can visualize program flow, display scores, or show the robot's status in real time.
Games can be played together with other BOLT+ owners nearby. Thanks to infrared sensors, you can communicate and collaborate – ideal for group tasks and tactical programming.
BOLT+ is small and agile, but there’s no need to worry if it goes out of sight. It has a compass inside, so you will always know where it is and can easily bring it back.
Motor encoders record speed and distance, allowing students to program tasks with precise movement or create animations based on distance. The gyroscope and accelerometer track rotation, tilt, and acceleration, enabling advanced control and motion analysis. Compared to the original BOLT, BOLT+ also has an upgraded processor for faster response.
All these sensors are fully accessible in the Sphero Edu app, allowing students to create programs that go beyond “moving from point A to B” to include real-world interaction, data collection, conditional responses, and logical decision-making.
Apps
-
Sphero Play
Try different control methods in the app and choose the most fun. Use your mobile phone as a joystick, control the robot via facial expressions, tilt your phone/tablet, etc. You will also find games where BOLT+ acts as a remote controller.
-
Sphero Edu
The Sphero Edu app is suitable for students of all ages. BOLT+ can be programmed by drawing, block programming, or writing code in JavaScript or Python. Programs can be saved in the app, or students can get inspiration from activities created by other users.
The app offers over 1000 ready-made activities, lessons, and examples (English only) in STEAM and computing, with almost unlimited potential. Teachers can easily track student progress or assign tasks directly through the app.
