Smart Train

Smart Train is not just an ordinary train, but an excellent tool for children from 3 years old, helping them learn the basics of programming through a progressive educational path.

Simply place the colored tiles on the tracks according to what you want the train to do, and then watch as it easily follows the commands using its built-in sensors. Older children can control the train via the app or experiment with programming using the Scratch visual programming language in the online editor.

Ideal for children from 3 years old

Intelino

Intelino is one of the few tools truly suitable for all educational levels.

Smart Train can be easily mastered by the youngest children from 3 years old, as programming it only requires building the track and placing colored tiles whose different combinations represent different commands (17 basic combinations are included in the set). The built-in color sensor recognizes the combination and converts it into commands such as stop, accelerate, reverse, detach a carriage, and more!

The tracks are durable and easy to snap together, and placing the tiles also helps young programmers practice fine motor skills. Another great advantage is that if you purchase an adapter along with the Smart Train, you can easily connect the Intelino track to most wooden tracks you might already have at home or in school.

Smart Train can also be controlled via the app, making you feel like a professional conductor. The app offers both a semi-automatic mode with preset commands and a manual mode where speed and direction are entirely up to you. In the Snap Editor, you can easily create your own codes.

Advanced young programmers can also try block-based programming in the Scratch editor and control up to four trains on one track at the same time. This allows for creating a smart city simulation where trains stop at crossings, avoid collisions, and transport passengers or cargo.

The fun doesn’t stop there! In the Scratch environment, Intelino can be linked with external devices such as micro:bit and experiment with artificial intelligence. For example, you can start the train with just a smile or stop it by sticking out your tongue!

Programming for beginners and advanced users

  • Screen-free programming
Smart Train can be programmed in several ways, from the simplest placement of colored tiles to using the Scratch visual programming language.
The set includes 17 basic combinations of colored tiles with explanations of what each command does. This intuitive and simple mode controls train movement, carriage coupling, stopping, speed, and direction of turns.
  • App-based programming with command editor
In addition to basic combinations, you can program your own action commands and track logic in the app and instantly upload them to the train. Once uploaded, they work without a screen.
The app also offers much more – in manual mode, you can change train speed and direction, detach a carriage, adjust the color of some LEDs, and play with sound effects.
Intelino
  • Block programming
Take full control using block programming in Scratch. The editor includes extensions for micro:bit, machine learning, face control, programming up to 4 trains at once, and more.
  • Python library
The full Python library allows controlling multiple trains simultaneously. Start with basic sequential scenarios and progress to event-driven asynchronous programming.

More than just color sensors

To execute commands, Smart Train is naturally equipped with color sensors located at the front and rear bottom of the locomotive. In addition, the train has a speed sensor to accurately show its speed, capacitive proximity sensors for interactive user engagement, a three-axis accelerometer, and more.

The colored LED lights and microphone provide feedback to children and also open up additional programming possibilities.

Expand your track and simulate the real world

Intelino

The set includes a basic set of switches, curves, and straight tracks with a double-sided design, offering many possibilities, but if you want a more complex and longer track, it can be expanded.

Intelino not only has its own intelligent track system but is also compatible with classic wooden trains and most wooden tracks. For this purpose, there is an adapter for wooden tracks, allowing seamless connection of Intelino tracks to standard wooden tracks from popular brands (BRIO, IKEA, Thomas & Friends, and more).

With an Track Extension Kit, you can double the track length and the number of action tiles included in the Smart Train starter set, or purchase only a Short Track Pack. For multi-level tracks and bridge structures, the Support Tower Pack and Bridge Kit with pillars are useful. And of course, don’t forget stations and tunnels!

Applications

  • intelino play
To expand ways to control and program the Smart Train, you can use the intelino play app. It turns your smartphone or tablet into an interactive train dashboard with multiple functions and instant feedback.
It also allows controlling the carriage coupling, customizing headlight and tail light colors, and switching between various themed sound packs (City Express, Police Transporter, …).
  • Edu central
If you prefer interactive learning where each student learns independently at their own pace, try Edu Central.
This web app offers interactive, story-driven activities that develop programming skills and logical thinking in a meaningful context. Smart Train guides children through programming missions using text, voice instructions, and images – available in multiple languages!
Edu Central tracks children’s progress, provides real-time feedback, and allows them to advance once tasks are completed correctly. Targeted hints help students resolve mistakes and build confidence.
  • intelino Scratch
The web-based Scratch editor can be used on any desktop, laptop, or tablet equipped with Bluetooth to pair with the train. It is free to use and available in Czech.
  • intelino Python
The intelino Python library provides access to a full Python API, enabling advanced event-driven programming and interactive control of multiple trains simultaneously.
