Otto

Otto

Otto, the first member of the HP Robots family, is a modular robot with simple coding that takes students through design, 3D printing, building, and basic robotics concepts. It develops important 21st century skills such as problem solving and critical thinking.

Otto

Get started with the basics of electronics, engineering and coding and extend functionality by customizing the robot through 3D design and expansions. Explore possibilities that spark the imagination and allow you to adapt learning for a new generation of students.

Ideal for children from 8 years

Otto is designed for children over 8 years, used at school lessons or supervised at home. For students over 14 years no supervision is required. A clear and easy to understand user manual with pictures guides students through Otto's assembly, during which no soldering is required – the connectors can be easily clipped into place.

No prior knowledge is required to operate Otto either. Three programming options ensure a smooth transition from simple control via the web control interface to text-based programming in Python and C++.

 Rechargeable batteries

Otto is powered by a built-in Lithium-ion battery, easily recharged via the included USB-C cable. When fully charged, the robot lasts approximately 2 hours of normal use and you can easily see the battery status thanks to the LED battery indicator on the back of the robot.

 Robot with unlimited possibilities

You can control Otto's movement using the web control interface, program it with blocks, or simply draw a route for Otto to follow. The line following sensor makes it a breeze for Otto. You don't even have to worry about Otto bumping into anything, as the built-in ultrasonic sensor ensures he can avoid all obstacles.

Otto is a robot with personality, so there are various sound effects and the ability to program the LEDs. Thanks to the integrated buzzer, Otto can make different sounds depending on the mood or you can teach him a short song. On the top you will find a programmable RGB LED ring - change the colours, cycles, speed and intensity of the flashing and more to make Otto a fun companion.

Connectivity

Due to the ability to control Otto via the web control interface, the robot is equipped with Bluetooth technology. When using blocks or text programming, the robot needs to be connected to the device via a USB-C cable and the program created needs to be uploaded to Otto.

Programming with blocks or text method

Programming Otto is easy and there is no need to download or install any app. Simply open the cross-platform web control or web code interface on any device and get started.

You can choose from 3 coding experiences depending on your level of knowledge:

Web control interface
Take full remote control of Otto with customizable input and output widgets.

Block-based programming
Otto can be programmed using blocks, which is ideal for beginners, because thanks to the drag-and-drop system they can immediately see and easily understand which commands can be combined and which cannot.

Python or C++
More experienced students can write their own code in different languages, to use it in other popular platforms like Thonny IDE and Arduino IDE.

With one click you can easily switch between block and text programming.

Kits for easy and quick assembly with endless expansion possibilities

The Otto robot is available in two basic versions.

The Builder Kit is the basic version of the kit with everything you need to build the robot right out of the box. In addition to the electronic parts, the Otto Builder Kit also includes all the 3D printed plastic parts.

If you own a 3D printer and would like to use it, you can purchase the Creator Kit where you will find all the electronic components, but it will be up to you to 3D print the plastic parts.

Otto also offers a lot of space for your own creativity! You can add cool accessories, design a new look or customize the robot with 3D design and expansion elements.

You can download 3D files for accessories and extensions for free at www.hprobots.com

Online library of lessons and curriculum

The Otto robot also comes with a range of STEM+A lessons, materials and curriculum, created in collaboration with educators, that contain everything you need for teaching.
