Rugged robot
- Designed for children over 3 years of age
- Constructed from durable ABS plastic, designed for outdoor use
- 3 programming modes
- 3 torque (speed) modes
- Obstacle sensor for navigation around objects and light sensor for automatically turning the lights on, LED lights and speaker for feedback
- Possibility to place a camera or data logging backpack on the robot for data collection
The Rugged Robot is ideal for outdoor use, as its durable and robust design, along with sensors, allow it to handle various terrains including sand, gravel, mud, and even water.
Ideal for children from 3 years old

The Rugged Robot is suitable for children in kindergartens and primary schools as a helpful tool in teaching STEM subjects (science, engineering, technology, and mathematics).
It is designed for outdoor use, and with its help children can easily develop programming skills, logical thinking, spatial imagination, and planning, as it can handle even the most demanding challenges. Thanks to its three adjustable speed modes, children can learn how speed affects movement across different types of terrain.
The Rugged Robot can remember up to 256 steps
-
Button programming
The Rugged Robot can be programmed just like the Bee-Bot and Blue-Bot using the directional buttons directly on its body.
-
App programming
You can also try programming via Bluetooth on a tablet or smartphone.
-
TacTile Reader
Another option is programming via a TacTile Reader paired via Bluetooth, where individual commands are placed directly into the reader, and once you press the Go button, the robot executes them.
If a programming mistake occurs, you don’t need to start from the beginning — just replace the incorrect tile and test it again.
The reader capacity is 10 commands, but for longer or more complex programs up to 3 readers can be linked together, or you can purchase an extended command set.

The Rugged Robot moves in approx. 20 cm long steps, can rotate by 45°, and remembers up to 256 steps.
Speed settings and additional sensors
For feedback, the Rugged Robot is equipped with a speaker and LED lights, making it more accessible for children with special hearing or vision needs.
But the Rugged Robot can do much more!
It features an obstacle avoidance sensor, so when it detects an obstacle it will reverse and try to find an alternative path around it, a light sensor that automatically switches on the headlights in darker environments, and you can switch between three speed modes to choose how it moves:
- Mode 1 – The robot makes a short pause between commands.
- Mode 2 – The robot moves in a straight line without pauses between commands.
- Mode 3 – The robot moves in a straight line without pauses between commands, and the turns are even faster for smoother movement on rough terrain.
TacTile Reader and additional accessories

Pair the robot with a TacTile Reader via Bluetooth, insert the command tiles, and run the program.
- Reader capacity: 10 steps
- Option to connect up to 3 readers in sequence
- Easy correction of mistakes — simply swap the incorrect tile for the right one
- LED lights and speaker for feedback
- Built-in rechargeable battery lasting up to 8 hours
In addition to the TacTile Reader and the extended command set, you can also use other accessories.
Rugged Robot app
You can control the Rugged Robot using its dedicated app, where you can program a route, easily correct errors, record sounds, use a function to quickly repeat algorithms, or challenge children’s planning skills by hiding certain commands.
Rechargeable battery
The Rugged Robot has a built-in rechargeable battery that can be easily charged with the included cable with a DC 5.5x2.1 mm connector. When fully charged, the robot lasts for about 6 hours of regular use (about 1.5 hours of continuous use). If the battery is completely discharged, a full charge may take up to 2 hours.
To save energy, the Rugged Robot includes a sleep mode that activates whenever it is not used for more than 5 minutes. To wake it up again, simply press any button. In sleep mode, the robot consumes very little power, so the charged battery lasts longer.
Connectivity
The Rugged Robot is equipped with Bluetooth technology, allowing you to pair it with a tablet (or smartphone) or a TacTile Reader and take children’s programming skills to the next level.
A robotics range that grows with children
TTS offers a unique and progressive learning pathway that develops alongside your students. With intuitive Bee-Bots and Blue-Bots, even the youngest learners can get started with programming – by TacTile Reader they learn the basics of sequencing.
For greater adventures, including outdoor learning, there’s the Rugged Robot, which offers the same simple control but is adapted for more challenging terrain.
Older students can smoothly progress to the Loti-Bot and Oti-Bot, which combine fun with advanced features such as sensors or block-based programming in Scratch or in the app.
Whether you’re just starting with coding or diving into more demanding STEAM projects, this complete range provides tools tailored to each stage of development. Programming thus becomes meaningful, engaging, and always age-appropriate.
